We have worked very hard to master regrouping in 2nd grade! We wanted to share a fun way you can practice at home which is easy and fun to do! First make sure you have a blank piece of paper, dice, and a pencil.
Each partner takes turns rolling to create a two digit number. Line them up vertically and solve!
We also wanted to share how to regroup with you! Please enjoy the posters that will teach you step by step how to find the sum!
Do you know how to regroup? Why do you think it is a useful math skill to understand? We would love to hear from you!
Guess what?! In our next math topic, we will learn how to recognize and count coins! Some of your learning targets will include:
I know each coin name and tell its value.
I can count up a group of coins up to $1.00.
I can show the same amount of money using different groups of coins.
To help at home, try counting up some coins in your piggy bank or your family coin jar. Remember, always start with the coin that is worth the most! Please enjoy this video to get you jazzed up about counting coins!
Thank you Jamestown Public Schools for the great video!

This has been such an exciting start of the year! We have worked on many interesting concepts in math including; adding and subtracting, place value, and algebra! Right now we are on topic 4 which is all about place value! Wooohooo for place value!
Coming up next is topic 5, recognizing coins and counting up coins. We had two wonderful friends, Jarren and Ana model how they can say coin names and count up a group of coins. Did you know when you have a group of coins, you always start with the highest value coin? That means you start counting with the coin that is worth the most.
Please enjoy these great student videos! We would love to hear from you. Do you have a piggy bank at home with change in it? How much money do you have saved in your piggy bank?
This week has been an exciting week for Eagleside City. We have enjoyed the business tourist season has brought to our city. Eagleside City citizens have been quoted saying “during tourist season, I have much more business because there are more people in our city”. We have also learned how tourist can help businesses grow and help communities sell more goods and services. Our business owners have learned how to price their items so they sell, but also prices that make them a fair profit. Owners have also learned how to give change to a customer and many have bargained with customers to sell many of their goods.
Can you think of any communities that have a tourist season? How do you think tourist help a community grow? We can’t wait to hear from you!
Did you know that sound is a vibration that can move through the air to your ear? The sound source (a rubber band) vibrates when it is plucked and the vibrations travel to the sound receiver, your ear. We have also learned that sounds can be high pitch (fire alarm) or low pitch (a stomp). Volume means how loud or soft a sound is. Can you think of some sounds that are loud and other sounds that are soft? How about a high pitch or low pitch sound?
